Ethnic Baby Clothes

We have very special clothes designed for your little Bundle-of-Joy. Here these clothes are typically called the Zabla, the Topda, the Kunchla, the Dupta (names and designs taken from Maharashtra).
The Zabla:

The simple garb of the darling baby is known as the Zabla. It is actually a very free wear garment, to be wrapped around and tied with strings made from the same fabric, necessarily of pure cotton or pure silk. It is made in such a manner that the mother finds it very easy to dress her baby. We bring you many such specially designed Zablas combining the fashion of the yore, with the modern.

The Topda:

These are baby-caps, a typical Indian design to cover the entire head of the baby to protect it from the new environment and feel the security of the mother’s womb, after all nine months has been a long time. We sell Topdas in these traditionally cut designs in fabrics of vibrant colours.

The Dupta:

This is the “baby quilt”, another unique piece of this section. The “scrappy quilts” are replicas of the Rangoli (coloured marble powder used to decorate the front yard of houses), particularly Maharashtra. The “patchwork and hand- embroidery quilts” are yet another artistic combinations of modern and traditional themes of Indian mythology.

The Kunchla:

The Kunchla or the Kunchi is the combination of the topda and the cloak. It is worn on the 12th day -The Barsa – the naming ceremony according to the Indian rituals. It is traditionally decorated in coloured pompom balls. We bring you this Kunchla in different colours and textures. Simple cotton Kunchlas are used as bathrobes, mothers swathe the baby in this cloak.
